Happy Birthday Linux!

Digital Tube- Code

It all started on the 25th of August in 1991. The Finnish College student Linus Thorvalds posted in a Minix Newsgroup that he was going to develop a license free Operating System saying it was “just a hobby, won’t be anything big or professional.”

24 years later, we can see what derived from this “hobby.” Linux is part of everyday computing and it’s even used in fields where we don’t recognize it at the first sight – as in the field of Embedded Systems.

It is used in Routers, Navigation systems, TVs, Mp3-Players and of course in Mobile Phones with the well known Linux-based Android operating system. The most important field for the Linux OS is the Internet. Nearly every Web server is hosted with Linux.

Simple Integrated Network Management

The key to cloud

Network management has sometimes proved a challenge for businesses using previous generations of hosting services. With limited access to connectivity management solutions, such as RAM and SSD storage, many small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) struggle to address their IT concerns. More often than not, they require someone with advanced technical knowledge in network administration to overcome changes such as surges in website traffic.

However, with the launch of next generation cloud servers, such as 1&1 Cloud Server, common server management issues have now been resolved. The main advantage of such servers is built-in and easy-to-use network management that is delivered as a service. All network functionalities, connectivity and security can be managed by customers, directly from the cloud server’s Cloud Panel. Features, such as firewalls, load balancers, VLAN and IP addresses can also be managed centrally.

Mobile Devices: An Ally of the Cloud

Mobile & Cloud

Mobile devices have become one of the main allies in cloud development. The fact that consumers use an increasing number of smartphones and tablets has directly benefited many cloud solutions and services. With constant connectivity, businesses and users benefit from the advantages that cloud solutions deliver.

Prior to the widespread adoption of mobile devices, it was businesses that developed and implemented specific technologies and spread them to the consumer market. With the advent of mobile, the opposite has occurred: now users demand that companies adopt specific mobile solutions, and that they work in the cloud. Companies now realize how certain services can be useful for consumers for one key reason: they enhance productivity.
