Successful E-mail Marketing Tips – Part 1

Many businesses have a regular digital newsletter they send to make customers aware of new products or special offers within the company. There are many tools to make the process of sending newsletters easier, but before jumping into sending anything to your customer base, consider the following tips to help you succeed with your email marketing.

Personalization. Try to learn as much as possible about the subscriber base who will be receiving your e-mails. The best way to do this is to have them fill out a brief online form when they subscribe to give their name and other information. This will allow you to personalize the messages in the future. E-mail personalization increases the acceptance and effectiveness of a newsletter.

Address management. Not every address list is flawless. E-mail addresses are always changing or becoming deactivated, which requires constant maintenance and management of the subscriber list. Additionally, depending on the size of your distribution list, you are bound to have a few people who wish to unsubscribe from the newsletter, which you will have to remove from future mailings.

Consolidation. If you have different customer bases that different messages apply to, it might make sense to keep them on separate lists. However, maintaining multiple lists can be more hassle than it is worth. Instead, revise them into a single distribution list so that you are able to easily sort according to the criteria you need. This way you have a total list to manage, and can account for those subscribers that could be members of multiple topics.

Frequency. Try to send the newsletter regularly. The more frequent the newsletter distribution, the higher the open rate of the e-mails. With that said, it is important to space them out with appropriate timeframes as well. Ideally, you should create an editorial plan for the year in which you identify interesting topics, so you can remain on a schedule.

Mobile e-mail. More and more users can receive and read emails on mobile devices. Therefore, make sure your own newsletter is suitable for such viewing. By ignoring the section of your audience who will be unable to read your newsletter on a mobile phone or tablet, you are missing out on a big demographic that will only continue to grow.

These tips are just some of the ways that you can increase your e-mail marketing success. Check back later today for more.

Successful E-mail Marketing Tips – Part 2

If you are considering sending a regular e-mail newsletter for your business, consider the tips we discussed in an earlier post, as well as the tips in this post, for the greatest success.

Trigger-mails. This term refers to when a company ties a specific event to a theme for a scheduled newsletter mailing. Typical holidays and other events such as seasons of the year are also good opportunities for trigger-mails. Themed newsletters often lead to an increased open-rate and acceptance by readers.

Welcome. The users who subscribe to newsletters have already signaled an interest in your company and your products. When someone subscribes, they should receive a welcome e-mail confirming the subscription, and also to let them know the type of content they can expect. You might even consider rewarding registration for the newsletter subscription with a voucher or discount. This allows you to increase the registration rate.

Social Media. If you have a social media presence for your business, make sure you promote it with links in each of your newsletters. This is a great way to increase your following on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc. Conversely, you should promote the newsletter subscription link in your social media channels to gain more readers. In addition to cross-promoting your company’s online presence, you can utilize social media buttons in your newsletter to encourage users to share their favorite content with their network.

Evaluation. Look at the statistics of your newsletter tools on a regular basis. Analyze the open rates and website traffic generated for each newsletter you distribute. Is there a need for improvement? If your traffic tends to drop off for certain e-mails and not for others, try to figure out why, so you can prevent it in the future. Additionally, provide the chance for your readers to provide feedback on your e-mails.

Relevance. Always ask yourself the question: Why should a client read my newsletter, and how critical is my message for the recipient? Make sure that the content of your newsletter is interesting and useful for your readers, and they will be more likely to open the message.
