How a Domain Portfolio Can Save Your Business

Domain Name Registration

Last year, the Internet landscape was completely redefined with the launch of the first (of what will be more than 1,000) new top-level domains (TLDs). These domain endings include options like .nyc, .restaurant, .web, .email, and .consultant to name a few. In today’s congested namespace, new businesses have shown excitement for the opportunity to claim a piece of the Web relevant to their business. Now it’s possible to clearly communicate a specialty, location, industry, and business type directly within the Web address – making the best first impression on those browsing the Internet.

One Week Until .NYC! New York City Businesses Can Register Their Exclusive New TLD on October 8

NYC-TLD

One week from today, on October 8th, the brand new .NYC top-level domain (TLD) enters the general availability phase. At that point, anyone with a physical address in one of New York City’s five boroughs can register a brand new Web address for their website.

As one of the first city-specific top-level domains (TLD) to be launched, .NYC is poised to become one of the most popular domain extensions available, so businesses are encouraged to grab their desired domain name as soon as possible. Currently, 1&1 offers pre-registration for .NYC in anticipation of its official launch. Pre-registrations with 1&1 are on an exclusive first-come, first-served basis, which means no other 1&1 customers are able to pre-register a domain option that has been previously chosen by another party. On the official launch date, the allocation of domains is carried out by the registry.

Why SMBs Should Take Advantage of City-Specific Domains

Las Vegas domain name

Location, Location, Location. A main factor when starting a business is where to set up shop. In most cases, a business’ online address is just as important as a physical street address. The recent launch of over 700 new top level domains (TLDs) now offers options far past the traditional .com, .org or .net. Business industries, hobbies, professional services and more present a large realm of new possibilities now available to business owners when registering their online address. Perhaps the most interesting category of this new domain launch is the city-specific domain names. Starting with .Vegas next month and continuing with .Boston in early 2015, individuals will soon have the option to register a city specific domain name.
