Earlier this week, the brand new .nyc top-level domain (TLD) became available for immediate registration to all residents of New York City’s five boroughs. To celebrate the occasion, the registry for .nyc, Neustar (ownit.nyc), hosted a launch event right in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. 1&1 was excited to be there to take part – and even offer some free taxi rides to residents.
As one of the first city-specific TLDs to be launched, businesses are encouraged to grab their desired domain name with this brand new opportunity. Deputy Mayor of New York City, Alicia Glen, spoke on behalf of the Mayor’s office about the importance of this new, exclusive domain extension. “To compete in the global economy, a strong Web presence is no longer a luxury – it’s a must,” said Glen. “With .nyc, we are creating a diverse and broad tech ecosystem.”
